“If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.” (Jeremiah 14:8 KJV)
In the verses before this, Jeremiah is speaking to the Lord about how the priests and prophets are going around preaching peace to the people instead of preaching truth. When we engage in wickedness, God will always call us to repentance. If we continue and choose not to heed Him, then we must be willing to accept the consequences that come with it. The same goes for our leaders—those who condone evil and do not preach truth to the body are not called by Him; they speak lies and they too will suffer the consequences. The Lord does not take pleasure in seeing His children suffer, but sometimes He has to show us some tough love in order to get us to straighten up and do what’s right.
