Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, “Striving (Matthew 6:33)”

matthew-6-33

MEMORY VERSE: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Mt. 6:33 KJV)

We are all striving towards something in life, whether it’s for a raise or to get fit, each of us has a goal that we are aiming to meet. When it comes to God however are we striving to make heaven? There will be many who will have spent their lives looking and sounding the part, maybe even holding a position within the ministry but won’t make heaven because they were striving towards the wrong things, “What are you devoting your time to…? Are we using the same effort used towards worldly things towards heaven?”

You have those people who go above and beyond, giving their absolute best, and then there are those who only do just enough, “What does it look like when you’re striving to please God?” Are you putting forth your best effort? Are you going out of your way to serve Him or are you simply giving Him average? First and foremost, if we are striving towards heaven we must have faith, “You don’t strive towards things you don’t believe in… You have to trust God, you have to seek after God.” As you grow in your faith, and you begin to trust Him, what He says holds more weight over what anyone else tells you, “You have to get to a place where you hear what He says over what others say… What good does it do you to go to church every Sunday, but you don’t trust God?”

Delight in the Lord and find joy in your work. We can say a lot of things with our mouths, but actions speak louder than words. Whether or not you actually love the Lord and have a fire for being His servant will be reflected in what you do. It is reflected in how you treat the assignments He has given you. Another thing we must do as believers is pray. “[Prayer] is essential to striving towards God but you have to be willing to act. Need to listen and do what the Lord has instructed you to do. “Your relationship with Jesus should be so strong that even if He’s asking yo to do something that is uncomfortable, you’ll do it. The more you begin to establish a prayer life, the more you allow Christ to take the lead, “If we call ourselves children of the King we have to trust no matter what, regardless of where He has us, we have to trust Him.”

Everything we do should be pleasing to God, no matter what it is. Let us also be sure that nothing interferes with giving our time to Him. We must get into His Word and we can’t be on and off again; when we neglect our relationship with Jesus we make ourselves an easy target for Satan to pick off. Remember that whatever He asks of you, it is necessary that you do it, “…when you fail to do what God has for you to do you leave someone hanging.”

NOW PRESENTING: “Free” by Derek Minor

by Jacqueline S. Sadberry
Editor in Chief

This week, with everything that’s happened in just the past few days, I wanted to feature the song Free by Derek Minor. I am seeing too many brothers and sisters in the faith choosing not to speak up, choosing to make excuses for why Black unarmed men/women are being shot down… It’s heartbreaking and disturbing. I hope that this music video will convey the pain that we as African Americans are feeling in this country.

“Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.” (Rom. 12:15 KJV)
